A Note On You

“You did it!” You thought could slip away quietly, unseen. No such luck. Singled out, you give in to the crowd wishing you could have remained anonymous.

You get dressed, walk out of your small New York apartment onto the streets of the big city. An average guy with an average job living in an average apartment, sticking to an average routine. In such a big city, it’s hard to escape the anonymity and stick out from the crowd. “Here I am! Notice me!” you wish to say to every passerby and large building, wanting to be more appreciated and singled out.

The notion of ‘you’ has different implications across the world. In America, it is generally an attractive implication that identifies you, an individual, and your unique contribution to society. Elsewhere, ‘you’ are your family, and there is not much sought after ‘you’ individuality.

Essentially, as you can see from the examples above, it is all a matter of perspective. Which is the right one? Well, what if there is no right viewpoint? The power and value of the individual varies according to the specific situations and conditions at the given time. For example, one person can make a difference, but the power of the family and being a part of a group cannot be understated.
